Personally, I think a change to nullsec and to start with lowsec needs to come from income. Myself, I have been cruising and making my income in low and null since 2009, but never left living highsec until late 2011. The actual living in highsec isnt that big of a deal.
What is needed is the balance of risk/reward. For me, I sacrificed reward for the risk factor. I ran solo without any form of scouts to exploration sites in low and null. When I found treasure, was good and fun, though annoying sometimes to get through. This is the place to start.
Industrials: We need to rebalance production items to suit this. No matter the source, highsec items should not be able to yield lowsec ores. With dronelands change, the only other source will be reprocessing. This in itself wouldn't be so bad, except for the npc drops. Have to make sure that any reprocessing makes it very difficult or rare to get morphite and your ABC minerals. Not enough though. More diversity in industrial ships. For low and null ores, we never want to went out because any industrial ship was useless for the task. Need large size industrial ships. Not more mining lasers, that would be fail. But maybe droneboat variations that still can get the mining lasers (at less bonus) or ones that can use missiles with strong effective tanks. Covert ops or other support type of industrials as well. Ideally some sort of T3 maybe.
Combat: They are highsec, and like me enjoyed the sort of peeps and playstyle assorted with it. Not quite ready to make a permanent low/nullsec move. There really isn't a whole lot that can be improved on this right now because I found exploration to be a fairly good way. It can take a long while to do the sites and they are risky for rewards typically only on par with highsec. Though don't want to make them farmable or meta items will flood the market, drop value and be back to start. Ships and basic architecture are all there, but not really enticing.
The best way I feel is adding tactical sites. Much like how the pirate epics are ran with small ships, we need to do the same for these sites. Have interconnected systems that encourage players to have to do certain sites as a team of ships. Split through different gates, two people hold one area from npcs while two more have to go to another area. Rewards sort of scalable. Because they require multiple people, they are alot less farmable for convenience than other sorts, but for active groups, they can be more fun and reward isk wize than anything highsec.
That is another good point, more rewarding. The risk reward isn't really there for highsec. The whole isk earning system needs to have a form of balance cap. Only way is ships need to die more in pve. Now this kind of runs to a whole idea of the same sort of idea as incursion, multiple people in a pve, and randomizations. If ships can no longer spec fit to a mission, a player can make a mistake easier and die. Make it so staying highsec running lvl 4 is fine if you are satisfied with having to replace your domi or raven a couple times a month. However if you want the isk to use the big toys, then you are going to really need to head out to where real money is. Small fleet things the same. You can run with a big fleet and guarantee victory, but no isk will be made really. So a balance would become key.
As you hit the other sec status areas, in low and null, we need to figure out how these ships can be more viable. Possibly sec stations need to form more about the sec status of the pirates flying them. Below -5, empire stations refuse docking. Above 5, maybe pirates. Just a thought. But idea is there. Want T3 and faction type money you need to hit low. Multibil capitals implants and fits, need to get to null. You can afford them in highsec, but buying anything outside a T1 battleship should start getting very pricey. |
